As per above given table, we can see that all core zones remain closed during monsoon period i.e. during months of July-August-September. In this period, buffer zones remains open for visitors to undertake safari drives. But despite of this, tourism activities in monsoon period, remain low due to which majority of hotels/resorts either remains closed or operates with 50% of staff.

Why core zones remain closed & buffer zones remain open during monsoon?

In order to answer this question, it is important to understand the arrangement of core & buffer zones. If we look at Bandhavgarh map, we will find the core zone is the internal forest area which is surrounded by buffer zone area, from all sides. It means core zone shares its boundary with buffer zones only where as buffer zone shares its internal boundary with core zone area and external boundary with outer world. Bandhavgarh tiger reserve forest area is spread over Vindhyachal mountain ranges which receives good rainfall during monsoon period (July to Sept). All safari trails in core zones are rough means we can't find any concrete or charcoal roads and their are many seasonal nullah, perennials inside this forest area which causes blockages in many safari trails. Due to rough muddy trails, it is possible that safari vehicle may get stuck in some marshy or muddy trails thus Forest Department has decided not to operate safari drives in monsoon period. Where as in Buffer zones are mixed land which means we can find some villages, fields, hotels in these zones thus their is high possibility of finding better roads which remains motorable in monsoon thus it is possible to operate safari drives in these zones. Still when rainfall continues, park authority retains the right to cancel even buffer zone safari drive.
